Crash at intersection of County Roads K and 16

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, OH, (April 21, 2024) - One person died and two others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday in Jefferson Township.

One person died and two others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday in Jefferson Township.Steven Thompson died in a crash involving a Ford Ranger at the intersection of County Road K and County Road 16 in Franklin County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), Steven Thompson, 36, was driving a Ford Ranger west on County Road K at about 7:30 p.m. when he ran a stop sign and collided with a vehicle traveling south on County Road 16. Thompson was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A passenger in the Ford and the driver of the second vehicle, whose names haven't been released, were hospitalized with serious injuries. Law enforcement suspects alcohol to be a factor in the crash, according to a release.

STOP SIGN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Traffic laws clearly state that drivers must stop at all stop lights. Unfortunately, motorists do not always abide by these laws, resulting in accidents such as the one that led to Thompson's death and two people getting seriously hurt.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, approximately 40% of automobile collisions take place at road intersections, and the cause is usually related to running a stop sign or a stoplight. Some of the reasons drivers blow through stoplights are impatience, reckless driving, and distracted driving.

Regardless of the findings of any police investigation, Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, stressed that it is imperative to hire an attorney to conduct an independent probe into the cause of the crash to secure evidence and protect the rights of victims.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and victims must be ensured that evidence is reviewed in an efficient manner,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for The Legal Advocate. “In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney will carefully examine what may have contributed to the crash and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide victims during this difficult time, while protecting their legal rights and best interests.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIMS

Pending results of the investigation, the two people injured may be entitled to personal injury claims. Such victims may seek damages for medical and rehabilitation costs, lost wages, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this one.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after being victimized in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “We understand just what people are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A personal injury lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
