Per the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a Ford Focus was traveling on State Route 73 near Berryville Road in Washington Township. Just after 7:00 a.m., the car traveled off of the roadway and crashed into a mailbox and a tree.

A passenger in the Ford, identified as 15-year-old Addison Howard, was transported to Miami Valley Hospital. Howard sadly died Monday.

The driver and a 17-year-old passenger were brought to an area hospital for treatment.

Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Each year, motor vehicle crashes in this country kill roughly 36,000 people and injure 1.9 million more. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was the primary cause of fatal crashes in 2018, followed by the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to stay in the proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.

"Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined," said Candice Bond, an experienced attorney and Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

"An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision," said Bond.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Addison Howard could pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand just what families must go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
